Sustainability at Fourfields

Introduction

The children at Fourfields are very aware of the importance of protecting our world for generations to come.

The school has recycled paper, plastic and card for a number of years and is very proud of our school garden but has recently moved a step closer towards sustainability with the introduction of a Textile Recycing Bank.

Look out for this textile bank in our school car park and when you next have a 'clear out' please donate any of the following by posting into the bank:

  • Clothes (but not stained work wear)
  • Clean rags
  • Shoes (laces tied together)
  • Bedlinen (not duvets or pillows)
  • Blankets
  • Tablecloths
  • Curtains
  • Teacloths
  • Towels
  • Aprons
  • Handbags
  • Belts
  • Books

The school will raise funds from your clothing donation alongside heping the Salvation Army help families in this country and abroad.

The school will use the funds raised from this venture to support the garden which models sustainability by providing food for our school lunches.

What Else?

In addition, the school has installed four scooter/cycle racks to encourage sustainable transport to and from school which not only protects the environment but also models a healthy lifestyle.

We promote communication by email and apps (and text/social media) to reduce the amount of paper we use and have recently moved to cashless payments reducing the number of envelopes used in school and removing the need to make a bank run so frequently.

Our gardeners make their own compost and collect rainwater in two water butts to water plants in the summer and we sell bio-degradable water bottles which can be filled up time and again for our children to use while at school.

Our website is designed by an eco-friendly company who offer support on line to avoid travel and do not issue anything by paper.

We have been awarded Bronze Starz accreditation for our Travel Plan through which we seek to reduce car journeys to school in favour of walking/cycling and a bronze Food for Life award in recognition of our Catering management and use of local products and our school garden.
